President’s Letter
President’s letter April 2022
Another summer season of “life at the lake” is fast approaching. Soon we’ll be enjoying fishing, boating
and swimming. The sounds of children playing in the water and the smell of someone grilling “something good” will fill the air. Reading a book on the dock and happy hour cruises will return.
As we step into the 51st year of the Portage Crooked Lake Improvement Association we have many things to look forward to. Back to the Lakes kicks off the season on April 30th . We are excited to have Natasha Bartolotta from The National Loon Center as our guest speaker.
We have other events planned including the return of the Family Fun Event on the 4th of July. Last year was the first year of this triathlon themed event, which had a fantastic turn out and very positive feedback. We’re looking to making this even better this year! Check out the calendar of events planned for this summer and mark your calendars.
In other matters, we will be assessing the effectiveness of last years milfoil treatment and determining what our next steps may be. We’re hopeful the new generation of treatments available will be as effective here as they have been on other lakes.
The channel between Portage and Hanks is another area of concern. Hopefully we will see water levels rise this spring and the ability to navigate through the channel restored. However, the ongoing use of this area as a place to park a boat and play will continue to cause the collapse of the channel. It’s important the channel remains passable, especially if emergency services (Sherriff, Search and Rescue) are needed in Portage.
Let’s have a great and safe summer!
