The Portage Crooked Lakes Improvement Association (PCLIA) Kids One Day Fishing Contest held Sunday, May 25th was a great success due to all of the support given to this function.  A special “thank-you” goes out to Rick Wimmer, President of the PCLIA, for being in attendance and giving his support, along with his wife Pat who took photographs.  Parents, grandparents, friends, and volunteers from around the lake helped create a fun-filled, memorable day for the over 55 children who participated in the contest.  A total of 88 fish were entered; largest species caught in each category were awarded a first place trophy with second through fifth place winners being awarded ribbons.

It was awesome to see the boats arrive at Stanway’s dock around 3pm and the measurements being taken.  Over 20 boats/pontoons were tied up at their dock as the afternoon fun began.  A big “thank-you” goes out to all the volunteers at the dock who helped secure boats and who helped ensure timely measurement of the entries.

As the entries came-in, the kids enjoyed taking their turn at the spinning wheel, which was run by Brian & Lois Donovan who did a fantastic job; with each child leaving a winner.  All kids left with a bag of fishing related material provided by the DNR.  Tutt’s Bait provided every child a bag which included an assortment of fishing items (lures, etc.), two $20 gift certificates were also donated.  Garrison Sports donated two separate launch trips for the grand prize along with two overnight stays, and two $25 meal tickets from Grand Casino Mille Lacs.  Additionally, a variety of prizes were donated by other Brainerd area businesses.  A tremendous amount of volunteer hours and effort went into soliciting some 200 tackle companies, sporting goods merchants, etc. for additional prizes.  MAKE SURE YOU STOP IN TO THE LOCAL MERCHANTS WHO DONATED PRIZES, AND ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR DONATION BY MAKING A PURCHASE AND SAYING “THANK YOU.”

As the fish were arriving at Stanway’s dock, the Stanway Family members were busy working behind the scenes tracking entries, tabulating results, and organizing ribbons/trophies for announcing the final placings.  The Stanway family enjoyed their roles in ensuring the day went off smoothly and that the children had a GREAT time.  There were a lot of compliments given by the attendees who genuinely appreciated the event and the Stanway’s efforts.  The Stanway Family would like to thank everybody who supported this event.  Please see the attached photos taken which capture some of the FUN.
